DIY Stuffed Animal Taxidermy

My newest DIY project is a little weird, but that’s what I like about it. I decided to make some stuffed animal taxidermy to hang on the wall. It came out looking a bit like something you could put in a toddler’s room, so all you new parents out there, here’s a craft project both you and your kids can enjoy (or run away screaming from). Keep reading to watch the DIY video and see more photos!

I was inspired by these taxidermy stuffed animals in the shop Paxton Gate for Kids, which I just think are so funny. However, they were selling them for $56 each, and I thought I could make one for much cheaper.

I used so much hot glue for this project – probably an entire stick on the outline of the elephant’s head alone. I like how the ribbon makes it feel a bit circus themed, though if I were to hang it in my own room, I’d want it to feel a bit more grown-up, with wood stain on the wood and neutral colored ribbon.

The nameplate is set in the font Deming. I wish I had a vintage label-maker with the printed raised up letters, which would have looked much more scientific, but I guess this solution will do.

I kind of wish I had sanded the wood before painting it, but it’s not a huge deal, and it does look kind of rustic and cool as is. I love the teal color that I mixed, which is just Bright Aqua Green and Cerulean Blue in about a 2 to 1 ratio.

Bubbles looks so sad in this photo. I’m sorry I had to separate you from the rest of your body! I could never do what Emily from the Brain Scoop does, with real animals and all that. Just cutting apart a stuffed animal was almost too much.

And there he is! If you want to make one, I put a list of the materials in a new Subblime list, and be sure to watch the video if you scrolled down without actually watching it. I’ve been making a lot of DIY videos lately, so check out my Crafting & DIY playlist if you want more. Thanks for reading!
