My Christmas Cards 2014

What better time to write a blog post about last year’s Christmas card design than the middle of spring? Keep reading to learn how I designed last year’s typography-inspired design and to learn how you can still get one!

When I was brainstorming last year’s Christmas cards, I knew I wanted them to be digital, because I didn’t have time to hand-make dozens of cards to send out. I brainstormed for ages and even photographed a design that didn’t end up working out, so instead I had the idea to design a take on my Alphabet of Ampersands poster, but instead do An Alphabet of Snowflakes out of asterisks. I went through all of my fonts and picked my favorite asterisks for each letter of the alphabet (except for X because seriously there are no good fonts that start with X). Then I arranged them to look like falling snowflakes to get a cute holiday card design that was inclusive to any religion or lack thereof.

Ever since putting my Moo.com referral code in my How to Design a Business Card video, I’ve been accumulating Moo credit, and I had enough credit to get 200 of these postcards for free. I began by sending about 70 of them to my friends and family, but that left me with a ton of leftovers. So, I began sending the extras to people who sent me Christmas cards to my PO Box as a thank you for supporting my content.

As of the end of March, I still have almost 100 postcards left, so I’ll continue to send one back to everybody who sends me something to my PO Box, as long as you put a legible return address on your letter or package. With my move to a new apartment in LA though, I have had to get a new PO Box, so the new address is:
Karen Kavett
PO Box 741405
Los Angeles, CA 90004

(Note that my old PO Box address was printed on the postcards, but from now on just disregard that address.)

I love getting mail, and I love sending mail back to you guys as well. I hope you guys like this design, and make sure to check out the Alphabet of Ampersands poster too! Thank you to everyone for supporting my videos and I’ll put up another post soon!
