DIY Halloween Desk Decor

insta_desk_3
Time for some Halloween Desk Decor! I had the idea for this video because I was in the middle of moving and I didn’t have the time or space to make giant decorations for my new apartment, so I thought I’d make a few little projects that would be perfect to keep on your desk at school or at work. Keep reading to see more photos and the full DIY video!

My favorite project of the bunch is these white and gold pumpkins. The big one I just painted white and pressed in some gold studs, and I think it came out really classy. Then the little ones I painted with liquid gilding paint, and it just immediately made them look so adorable.

I also LOVE how these feather “quills” came out. I just used the same gold gilding paint to paint onto fake black feathers I got at the craft store, and I wasn’t really sure if it would work, but I think they came out gorgeous! Then I just cut down the ink cartridge of a ballpoint pen and stuck it into the feather stem, and I had some beautiful feather pens!

Emojis are all the rage these days, so I had to do this project once I thought of the idea. I decided to make a post-it holder that looks like the ghost emoji by cutting out the ghost shape from cardstock, coloring it in, and taping the post its on top. I just apologize to my parents for how terrible my drawing skills still are even after they let me go to a crazy expensive art school for college >.< IMG_8895
Next I had the idea to spray paint a mini champagne bottle to hold the feather quills I made, and then I decided to wrap the bottom in gold chain and embellish it with a gold leaf sticker. I actually ended up painting the gold chain with my gold gilding paint as well, because it wasn’t quite the right gold color and I just had to have it match everything else.

This little chalkboard sign was a total impulse purchase at Michaels, but I think it looks so cute clamped to the top of the champagne bottle! Plus, I can always wipe off the BOO and change it to something more Christmas-y in just a few weeks.

Our last project was a bit of an outlier because it involved ice that kept melting throughout the video shoot, so I had to shoot it separately from the rest. But, it’s these spooky Halloween ice cubes that you can make by dropping small Halloween toys into ice cube trays. I think they look especially creepy with the red flavor enhancer I added to the water!

And finally, one little life pro tip – if you want a really easy way to bring the holidays to your desk, just replace your Scotch tape with patterned washi tape. You can switch this out for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, any holiday you like!
