Easy Hoodie DIYs You Have to Try!

hood_1
Today I’ve got a new video on my channel all about DIY ways to dress up plain hoodies! I first got the idea for this video when I saw a hoodie at Beacon’s Closet when I was in New York, where the hood was lined with sequin fabric. The hoodie was way too big for me, but I knew I could recreate it myself, and today I’m showing you how to do it too. Keep reading to check out more photos from the project and a no-sew DIY as well!

I started with a plain black hoodie that I got from H&M for $20. You could definitely also do this project with any hoodie you already own or one that you got from the thrift store.

For the sequin lining, I actually bought a dress on sale at H&M for $10. It would probably be just as expensive to get sequin fabric at a dedicated fabric store, so cutting apart clothing you pick up on sale is a great way to get lots of fabric to work with!

The process is a little too long to explain fully in text, but if you watch the video, I go through step by step how to pin the fabric and where to sew it in order to sew on the fabric neatly. I love how this came out, and even if it’s not totally practical to actually wear the hood since the sequins get caught in my hair, it’s an unexpected little touch for what’s otherwise a plain hoodie.

I kind of want to call this the mullet hoodie – business in the front, party in the back :D

This second DIY is a lot more simple, and all you need is a sweatshirt, rhinestones, and a hot glue gun to glue down the rhinestones all over the front pocket of the sweatshirt. In the video I did this project using tacky glue, but that actually didn’t hold as well as I had hoped, so I think hot glue is probably your best bet.

If doing the full pocket is a little much for you, I also love the look of just cuffing the sleeves and gluing on a few smaller rhinestones there.

I hope you liked these DIY projects, and be sure to also check out my new video on HGTV Handmade today where I’m showing three more ways to dress up plain clothing. After all these videos, I’ve got myself a whole new wardrobe!
