3 DIYs to Make Using Leather Scraps

blog_post
Today I have three DIY projects for you, and they come with a bit of a backstory. Over on HGTV Handmade, we’re starting a new challenge where we’re making crafts inspired by the other girls on the channel, and today my DIY Vases inspired by Meg Allan Cole went up. Originally I was going to make that project using colorful leather, but it didn’t arrive in time for that video. So instead, I’ve got a video on my main channel of three DIYs to make using leather scraps!

leather
I was so happy when the leather finally arrived from the overseas Etsy shop, and it looked exactly like it did in the pictures. Of course if you’re not comfortable using real leather though, you can do any of these crafts with faux leather or a similar thick fabric.

I had an extra vase from Target that I used for the video on HGTV Handmade, so our first project is using the leather to bring my original vision for this project into reality. I just traced the sides of the vase onto the back of the leather and then cut out slightly smaller pieces of leather to glue on, and I think it came out so cute!

You hardly need any leather to make this next craft! Just cut out shapes, punch out holes in the top for jump rings, and glue them together to get a cute statement necklace. I only wish I had had a gold necklace chain to match the jump rings, but that’s something that’s easy to switch in and out.

I love how this came out, and it was so quick to make that you could make these in all kinds of colors!

And then finally, leather tassels are having a moment right now, but what if we stacked two colors on top of each other to get a multicolored tassel? I think they’re so fun!

These look great clipped onto a handbag for some extra decoration, or…

…as a key chain do you don’t lose your keys!
