While I was at YouTube NextUp, there was a set that was being torn down at the end of the week. The set was of a gross bachelor pad apartment, so I asked if I could make a video redecorating the set to try to turn it into a nice apartment. They let me do anything I wanted in there (even paint!), but due to our schedule constraints, I only had about 4 hours to finish it. It was really stressful, but I love how the finished product turned out (even if it was only standing for about 20 minutes before I had to take it all down again). Check out the finished video below and more photos of the transformation after the jump!
I forgot to take nice photos of the apartment’s before look, but I do have these reference photos I took on my phone and screenshots from the video. It was an amazing set for what it was aiming to be, but I really wanted to clean it up and make it look livable.
One of the biggest changes was painting the walls white and the refrigerator and windowsill a bright teal. Thank you so much to all of my friends who helped with the painting – if they didn’t step in, it never would have gotten done.

And thank you to Eric Beck for filming the whole thing!
I wished I could have put a big painting or poster above the chairs so there wasn’t just an empty white wall, but unfortunately I didn’t have anything handy. Let me know – what would you have put there?
The stage lighting cast such cool shadows! And if you want to do the rainbow mason jar project yourself, it’s really easy – just cut paint chips down to size and put them into the mason jars, smushing them into the curved neck, and then just put the top back on.
A few of the details around the new apartment set. I wish I had had more buttons so the cupcake tin was just overflowing with them!
A little composition on one of the end tables. I love the look of putting a few rolls of bright washi tape into a clear bowl.
A little behind the scenes shot – this fancy tripod and my wide angle lens is how we got the smooth transition shots of the whole space.
Thank you so much for reading! Don’t forget to check out the video and all of my crafting and DIY videos if you’re new here. I know I’ve let my blog stagnate for a few weeks while I was traveling, but keep an eye out for more blog posts over the next few days!
