April Fools 2014

April Fools is over for another year, so I thought I’d share the designs I made for my April Fools joke this year. Essentially, I made a video explaining how because of my new “inclusive design philosophy,” I’d be re-releasing all of my merch using only fonts that are available to everyone – mostly Comic Sans. For one day each year, it’s so fun to pretend to genuinely love Comic Sans. But wait, this shirt I designed is actually a real shirt for one week only! DFTBA agreed to sell it as a limited run, and I can’t wait to wear it ironically.

In case you don’t get the joke, the shirt is based off my Why buy anything else when you could be buying books? shirt, which is probably my best selling merch item ever.

I also redesigned my Alphabet of Ampersands poster to only include default system fonts. Since there aren’t default fonts for every letter of the alphabet, some spots had to be left blank. But if you look closely, I did actually update all of the tiny text with info about each font.

This is based on the John Green Box Set, of which I designed the box. The most obvious use of Comic Sans is on the spines, but if you look closely, I actually replaced most of the text on the actual box with Comic Sans as well.

This was originally the Everyone Deserves Tea Mug that I designed for the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Now it seems like a fitting gift to give your worst enemy.

And finally, this is based on the Don’t Break the Chain calendar, which is a free download for the normal, non-Comic-Sans edition.

I hope you guys liked this year’s April Fools joke, and don’t forget that the Comic Sans shirt is actually available on DFTBA for a limited run through April 8th. There was one part of the video that wasn’t a joke though – that I’m working on a new batch of necklaces! Stay tuned to find out when those are available. Thanks so much for reading!
