HGTV Handmade Tiki Party!

If you’re subscribed to HGTV Handmade, I hope you’ve enjoyed our Tiki Party Week (well, 2 weeks) on the channel! Every so often, all of us at HGTV Handmade get together to film themed videos together and they’re always so fun to make. But this was our biggest theme week yet, with 10 videos for you, and all of them were edited by me! Keep reading to learn more about them!

How gorgeous is this table? You can learn how to put together all the pieces for yourself in this playlist, including a bonus 11th video about how to make the delicious coconut donuts we were eating at the party. It was such a blast to shoot and also really fun to edit!

I edited all of these videos at the YouTube Space LA, putting in about 5 ten-hour days, including one day when I had a pounding headache and there was also a rock band shooting a video in the studio next to the editing room. So that was fun. But I actually really enjoyed the editing process, though I never could have done it without PluralEyes, which synced together all of the hours upon hours of footage we shot. Let me know if you have any favorite moments from the series – I think mine would have to be the entire blooper reel which was just too funny!

We started the first week with solo DIY videos, and my project was Tiki Tangle, which is a DIY Twister game but with the dots replaced by pineapples. It was actually the DIY project that look the longest time to film – even with another girl helping me stencil all the pineapples, we were still out there for hours. I also designed the Tiki Tangle spinner graphic, which ended up being the starting point for all the rest of the design work I did for the Tiki Week, and I think it came out so cute. The colors are so bright and fun, and with a decorative straw as the spinner, it actually looks like something you could have bought.

My next DIY video was the Cocktail Umbrella Lanterns that it seemed like everyone commented on when our intro video went up. They’re actually so easy to make, you just cut the toothpick off the umbrellas and hot glue them to paper lanterns. Meg and I shot this video together, though true confessions – most of the umbrellas were made by Marianne’s team before we started the shoot. But they’re just so colorful and fun, and would be a great decoration for any summertime party!

My final video was putting together the bar cart with Julia. I am in love with all the drink bottles and accessories Marianne’s team gathered, and it’s amazing how we could make a plain side table look so Tiki! I also love the dollar store Tiki Heads, which were some awful colors before we got to them with some spray paint and made them look almost ceramic.

It was so great to see the other girls again, which we hardly ever get to do since we live all over the country. We always have so much fun together (like here where we’re giving the camera our best Blue Steel!) and I can’t wait to see them in just a few months at VidCon. Stay tuned to HGTV Handmade for the other videos we shot when we were all together in Tennessee (can anyone say…30 Minute DIY Challenges?). And if you want to see previous theme weeks we’ve shot together, check out our Friendsgiving collab, the HGTV Dream Home DIYs, Guest Week, and our Back to School week!

And of course if you want to see all of the Tiki Week videos, they are all up now in this playlist. Coming up on Handmade, we’re getting back to normal DIYs, and I cannot wait for you guys to see mine, so come back to this blog tomorrow to see that! I hope everyone’s having a great start to their summer, and I’ll be back soon with more projects!
