Recently I had the opportunity to work with Wayfair on a campaign they’re running called #DORMOVER (get it, like makeover, but with a dorm room?). I basically got to go on a shopping spree on their site and pick out all my favorite things, and then they flew me out to New York to shoot a video in the dorm room they put together with designer Christiane Lemieux. The room was so gorgeous that I didn’t want to leave, so keep on reading to watch the video and see more photos from the room!

This is what I call my “college chic” look. I haven’t actually been in school since I graduated in 2011, but I think I can still play the part well enough, right? And in true college fashion, the shirt I wore is from the Forever21 sale rack; I think it cost about $5. But my hair and makeup were professionally done by an amazing makeup artist they hired for the shoot!
A huge thank you to Christiane for putting together such a gorgeous room based on the items I picked out. If you don’t know her, she is the founder of Dwell Studios and was a judge on Ellen’s new show on HGTV, and she’s amazing. We actually have another video up on her channel from this room which you can watch here.
Totally not posed at all *shifty eyes.* I’m happy we’re about the same height though, because usually I have to get up on an apple box to pretend I’m not a tiny short person.
This room is so beautiful I didn’t want to leave, but I kind of didn’t have to, because Wayfair actually sent me a ton of the furniture and decor items, which I’m using to redecorate my actual apartment! I’ve been filming the entire process, so someday when I have free time (like that ever happens), I’ll get around to editing those videos and put them up on my channel for you to watch!
If this had been my actual dorm room, those shelves would have been stuffed full of art supplies. But for the college student who’s not a total hoarder like me, I think they look so cute!
A few more closeups of the details in the room. I loved how colorful everything was and it’s definitely what my dream dorm room would have been when I was still in college.
Here’s a little behind the scenes look at the room – did you guess it’s not a real dorm room? They actually had this three-walled set that they switched out for the other dorm rooms they put together for this shoot. Some other awesome YouTubers were also a part of this campaign so you can check out their #dormover videos on their channels:
Meg Allan Cole, Tanner Bell, Vivian Vo-Farmer
If you want to “shop the room” and get some of the exact same pieces, Kin Community actually has a store on Wayfair where each of us are featured along with the things we picked for our dream dorm room!
I hope you liked this video and blog post! It’s a little different than my usual videos since we shot it in an actual studio with a crew and microphones and lights and a big company behind the whole thing, but I really love the finished product and I hope you guys got some inspiration from it. Be sure to watch Christiane’s video from the room as well, and stay tuned all week for even more Back to School videos from me!
