Today on HGTV Handmade, I have a fun Back to School DIY for you – 3 Cute Ways to Cover Textbooks! I always loved covering my textbooks in school and coming up with fun designs to put on them, so I hope you guys like these three ideas as well!
Our first idea is to make these minimalist gradient book covers using craft paper and spray paint. It’s really as easy as cutting out paper to cover the books, spray painting a gradient on them, and then covering your books as normal.
I love how these came out, and I want to make a ton more to cover even more of my books just for my own bookshelf!
Next I decided to have some fun with stamps. To make this one, just cover your book as normal, and then gather all the stamps you have and go crazy making a random pattern.
The YouTube-themed stamps that I’m using here were made by Christine Herrin as part of the Adobe Creative Residency!
Along with the front of the books, you can also stamp the spine. I probably could have stamped out the class names a bit neater, but I was at an awkward angle to get the shot I wanted for the video.
You can also use mini stamps to add your teacher’s name and classroom number. I think these look so cute!
And finally, the last project is how to use wrapping paper to make a book cover. The trick is to coat it with Mod Podge and glue it to a brown paper bag book cover so it doesn’t tear as you’re pulling it in and out of your backpack.
This donut wrapping paper is from Target, and I tried to find it online, but it doesn’t seem to be on their website. But, if you go to the gift wrapping aisle next to the greeting cards, you should be able to find it.
