Designer Vaca 2014

Last week I packed my suitcase again and headed out to Palm Springs for Designer Vaca 2014. Described on the site as “a vacation for pretty pixel pushers,” it was a gathering of 100 female graphic designers for two days talking about design and relaxing by the pool. I met so many awesome ladies in the short two days I was there, and I also fell in love with the Ace Hotel at Palm Springs, which has a new Instagram opportunity around every corner. Keep reading to check out all of the photos I took over the weekend!

The event was held at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, which was just filled with so much beautiful typography I couldn’t even handle it.

Nothing better than giant typography.

We had a few discussion sessions, where we talked about all kinds of topics related to design. I definitely learned a lot from all of the other girls.

Speaking of whom, I made some great friends and have a ton of new inspiration on my Instagram feed. If you want a list of tons of design websites to get inspired by, check out the Who’s Going page of the Designer Vaca website.

I also got to meet Jessica Hische, whose lettering is just beautiful. If you think you haven’t seen her work, you’ve probably already seen her work somewhere, so do yourself a favor and go check it out.

Kyla and I accidentally became twins one day when we wore almost the exact same outfit, even down to our pants color (mint).

And my roommate Jenny was awesome as well. Don’t worry, we didn’t actually hate each other – it was just for the photobooth!

If there’s such a thing as paradise, Palm Springs is it. It truly felt like an oasis in the middle of the desert.

The swimsuit I’m wearing is the Bathing Beauty swimsuit from ModCloth. It doesn’t look like they sell the pewter color I have anymore, but they have it in tons of other colors. I’ve had mine for three years now and it’s held up great!

All I want is to go back to that beautiful pool with those delicious (and very expensive) poolside drinks.

But it wasn’t just the pool – the rooms themselves were beautiful too, with some really fun prints on the walls.

Best hotel room tissue box ever?

Some cool rope work in the lobby.

Can’t wait to go back next year, or even sooner if I can find anyone who wants to make a trip out to Palm Springs from LA with me!

I also spent the weekend before last in San Francisco and took these cool geometric photos that I wanted to share here on my blog. Check out my travel video here!

Thanks so much for checking out my blog, and be sure to keep checking the Designer Vaca website if you want to sign up next year. Now I’m off to harness some of my new inspiration and do some graphic designing (well, once I finish shooting all of my many Halloween DIY videos!).
