Back in November I got an email from Hank Green asking if I could design some elements for a new campaign he and the Harry Potter Alliance were launching – DFTVA, or Don’t Forget to Vote, America. The election was coming up, and no matter who you were voting for, Hank and the HPA wanted to encourage everyone, but especially young people, to go out and vote. And so they launched DFTVA.com, where if you submitted a photo of yourself with your ballot, you could get a free sticker in the mail.
The design of the sticker was pretty straightfoward, since there were election graphics everywhere at that point. The main thing I needed to be sure to include was the subtitle so it didn’t look like a typo of DFTBA. This was also the first time in a while I had used the nerdfighter hands graphic, which popped up again the Carnegie Hall and UK tour merch for John and Hank (blog post about that coming soon)! Also, just to be clear, the hand sign with the leaves around it was not designed by me, that’s been around in the community for ages and I’m sure who made it in the first place.
I also put together Hogwarts house color versions of the design for the Harry Potter Alliance to distribute! (And yes, Ravenclaw book purists, I made a blue and bronze version too – you can get it here.)
I didn’t design the website, but they did use elements of my design in it. If you submitted a photo and haven’t gotten a sticker yet, don’t worry, you’ll get it soon!
This is the photo I submitted to the site and a video I made about my experience voting. Obviously I was voting for Barack Obama, and I’m so excited that he’s going to be our president again for the next four years!
