Hi everybody, today I am here with my first DIY video of 2016, some easy room decor ideas to refresh your room for the new year. I love all of these ideas, and I hope you guys do too. All of us at HGTV Handmade are so excited to bring you new DIYs all year long, and I’m sure the other girls will be making some amazing projects. But for now, keep reading to learn how to make all three of today’s new projects and to get the free printable poster!
Our first project is this instant photo grid hanging wall art. I love the idea of breaking up one image into several photos using an Instax printer, and then piecing them all back together with jump rings to hang on the wall. I definitely want to make a giant one someday! If you want to make one for yourself, you can download the template here to help you break up your photo into sections for printing.
I love how this project came out, with all the gold and the white feathers. I’ve seen decor like this in weddings, but I think it looks great in a bedroom too, and it’s really easy to make so long as you don’t get the thread tangled! I think it would also look great if you used an actual branch to hang the feathers from – I just don’t have a backyard at my apartment so I had to use a dowel.
Our next project isn’t as much a DIY as an easy decoration idea, which is to grab some shoes that aren’t practical for everyday wear, and display them as art pieces by filling them with fake flowers! I love being able to look at and enjoy my shoe collection without my feet feeling the pain of those five inch heels.
I got these shoes at a thrift store for way cheaper than they were originally. I’m sure I featured them in a haul video at some point!
And I got these amazing Jeffrey Campbell knockoffs on sale at a store that already sells cheap clothing. I paid less than $20 for them!
And finally, the free printable poster. I designed this based on Rosianna Halse Rojas’s daily checklist of the things she does every day to still feel like a human being. I love this reminder for self-care, and you can personalize it as much as you want with a metallic Sharpie (or any other marker – you do you!).
