Today on HGTV Handmade I posted a very special DIY video, because it featured the one and only Mr. Kate! We made 6 DIY Nautical Glam Drink Accessories in celebration of the HGTV Dream Home 2016. Kate got to go to the dream home to be in the TV special, and so we had her as a guest star on HGTV Handmade to help promote it. Keep reading to see all the cute DIY Drink Accessories we came up with!
I had so much fun shooting with Mr. Kate. I’ve been a fan of hers for ages, and I was so nervous having her come over to my house, since her house is decorated so beautifully. But I think the video came out really well!
We ended up doing six projects, any of which would look great at a New Years Party. Going clockwise, we’ve got:
Marshmallow Poppers: Kate came up with the idea for these and I think they’re so cute and great finger food to go with your champagne (or sparkling water!). Plus, it’s basically sugar on sugar on sugar, so of course it’s delicious.
Paper Straws with Flags: I love these because usually the flags are the focal point of decorated straws, but we turned it on its head by using patterned paper straws and then simple white flags made from artists tape.
Seashell Drink Stirrers: This is the DIY project that is featured in the HGTV Dream Home 2016, and it’s so easy to make! Just get some 6-inch wooden skewers, glue a seashell to the end of each one, and use it to stir your New Years cocktail. Just be sure to only use these with real glasses and not plastic cups, because they can get a bit top heavy and I don’t want them knocking your drink over!
Star Drink Stirrers: Kate came up with this one as well, and I love the subtle glittery touch they bring to the party!
Then I also spray painted the bases of the plastic champagne glasses, which you could do for any color scheme. And finally, Kate made these cute wine charms out of another seashell, a gold chain, and some gold glitter.
If you don’t want to serve alcohol at your party, these marshmallow snacks also go great with a cup of hot chocolate!
I hope you liked these projects, and let me know if you want to see Mr. Kate and I collaborate again in the future. Remember to watch the HGTV Dream Home 2016 TV Special at 8pm on New Years Day, and stay tuned to HGTV Handmade all week to see all of our DIYs that were featured on the show. Thanks so much for reading, and I hope you all have a great New Years!
