Over the last few months I’ve had the pleasure of working on designs for LeakyCon 2011, a huge Harry Potter conference happening this summer in Orlando, FL. There are a couple of us on the design team, all working under the leadership of Jordan Edwards, an exceptionally talented designer I’m so happy I’ve had the chance to work with.

A project I finished a couple months ago is the kinetic typography seen at the end of the LeakyCon Fandom Memories series of videos. The video illustrates all the rules for submitting responses to the video series, and it’s one of the more complex kinetic typography projects I’ve undertaken. I’m really happy with how it came out, since there was a lot of information to fit in only a minute of video.
One of the other projects I worked on was a grassroots flyer which was meant to be distributed both as a printed piece and online in order to promote the conference. Due to higher-than-expected registration counts, the flyer probably won’t actually be used, but I still love the layout and typography. I think I managed to put my own spin on it while still keeping within the visual language designed by Jordan to keep the whole conference consistent.
Finally, I also designed the official Tumblr page for LeakyCon, which has become a great place to express excitement about the conference and hear the latest news. Since I didn’t code it, the version seen online doesn’t match my design specifications exactly, but you can follow the tumblr here if you’re interested.
As the conference gets closer, I’m going to continue to work on more and more design projects. Next up on my plate is the convention center map (design inspiration: Marauder’s Map) which will be seen in the programming book, as well as graphics for the LeakyCon mobile app.
If you want to register for the conference, head on over to the official LeakyCon website, but hurry – registrations are going fast!
