With the Parks & Rec finale next week, I had to make a new DIY based on the show, so I decided to make Leslie Knope’s waffle purse out of duct tape! It’s actually a pretty simple DIY, though I did use up almost an entire roll of brown tape. Keep reading to see the DIY video and see more photos!
Leslie’s purse isn’t a direct replica of a waffle, so I decided to mimic hers as much as I could, though the light brown color ended up a little different because I used bacon tape rather than light brown tape and my weaving is a little larger than on her purse. My zipper also isn’t as long as hers, and I decided to skip the syrup motif on the front and replace it with another strawberry to make it more symmetrical. But otherwise, I think it came out pretty close!
I decided to make a “Leslie-bound” outfit, or a loose interpretation of Leslie’s clothing choices. I’m wearing a black and white dress from H&M to mirror her wedding dress, a blazer from Nordstrom, and red shoes from Sears that were actually my prom shoes in 2007. And of course, my duct tape waffle purse.
I’ve been really into duct tape lately because I’m going to be making monthly videos on the Duck Tape YouTube channel! Duct tape is what got me into crafting in the first place back in high school, so I’m so excited to be working with them directly. To be clear though, this video was not sponsored by Duck Tape, they just sent me a few free rolls of tape, but once I got it in my head to make a waffle purse, I just had to do it.
These photos were taken by Alivia Marie and edited by me. We actually took them right before heading off to Disneyland for the afternoon, so it was a really fun day! (Yes, I changed my shoes.)
Just one step closer to my dream of being Leslie Knope. Now I need to get to work on my personalized stitched pillows for next year’s Galentine’s Day!
I hope you guys liked this DIY, and please send me a photo if you decide to make one too! As always, you can watch all of my DIY videos in this playlist, and you can reblog this project on Tumblr here. Thank you so much for reading, you beautiful spinsters!
