Hi everybody, it is my week again on HGTV Handmade, and today we’re making these cute Perler Bead Phone Cases! I love how colorful these are and how many different possibilities there are for the designs you could make. Keep reading to watch the DIY video and see more photos of the project!
The main material in this project is Perler Beads, also known as Hama Beads or more generically, fusible beads. You can get these at any craft store or online.
I would definitely recommend separating your beads into the different colors before starting this project, because it makes placing the beads on the pegboard go so much faster.
Now it’s time to grab a clear phone case and measure it against the pegboard to see how many beads can fit on your case. You can either angle your case straight up and down or on a diagonal.
I created a pattern in Illustrator with all of my bead colors so that I could plan out my designs beforehand. This template is for the iPhone 6.
Now it’s time to come up with your designs! I made five different designs to show you a few different possibilities. If you want to download my Illustrator file to customize these for yourself, you can do so right here.
Now it’s time to lay out all of your beads according to your pattern. This is definitely slow, meticulous work, so put on some good music and get to work!
A quick note on the placement of the camera – if you like the look of separated beads like all the photos below, put the camera hole on the opposite side from where it actually is on your phone. If you like the look of solid beads like this, put it on the correct side when arranging your beads.
Once you have your beads arranged, just iron them according to the directions that came with your beads, and then glue it onto a clear phone case. And you’re done!
I hope you guys liked this project, and I would love to see what designs you come up with for your phone cases. Send me photos on Twitter or tag them with #hgtvhandmade on Instagram! And be sure you’re subscribed to HGTV Handmade to see two more DIY videos from me on Wednesday and Friday!
